I read a blog entry by a pastor in my city who was praising all the good things that are going on in the name of Jesus, he listed some excellent churches; City Church, Mars Hill, Eastlake Church, Northshore Baptist Church and Overlake Christian Church. I was inspired and excited to hear what all is going on in and around Seattle. I am sure some of the work these churches are doing has to do with Seattle no longer being the least churched city in America, and the PNW no longer being the least churched area. For that, I say "Thank you Jesus." I know some of the pastors at the aforementioned churches and they are excellent men. They love Jesus, their wives and children and the church. I am so grateful for what they are able to do on the scale by which they are able to do it!
But I felt like there are other churches in Seattle that are doing some equally courageous and needed work. They aren't mega, they aren't in the news all the time, they aren't in the fraternity of big building and budget. However, they are needed just the same. The population attending churches in the city of Seattle is far below what any of the mega churches and the smaller churches combined can come close to. There are many more staying home reading the newspaper, drinking Starbucks and waiting for the football games to start on a Sunday. They aren't thinking about, nor do they care what is happening for Jesus in and around Seattle.
I wanted to point out the many churches that are existing to reach people in the name of Jesus that are not 1000's, rather, they are hundreds or a hundred. There are pastors and leaders in these churches praying the same thing. "Jesus, be glorified, bring people to a place of repentance and let them live and understand the hope of Christ Jesus."
Here are a few: Creekside, Quest, All Saints Church, Grace Seattle these are great churches that have a heart to reach and serve people with the gospel of Jesus.
I agree, God is up to some amazing things in Seattle! Let the gospel of Jesus be proclaimed to all!
